Berlin, 25 September 2018. Today, the Association of German Foundations and six partners are launching their new global collaboration, called Next Philanthropy. They aim to share knowledge, compare insights, and fuel a discussion about the latest trends in philanthropy.
Felix Oldenburg, General Secretary of the Association of German Foundations, explains why it’s time to look ahead: “Foundations are built to last but philanthropy is changing all the time. From mankind beginning to spend agricultural surpluses to the latest wave of crypto currency foundations, foundations have reflected their time, place and culture.“ Felix also assumes that the next philanthropy is going to be more global, more transparent, more participatory, more collaborative, more digital and more entrepreneurial; and that it will invest more.
Launch of knowledge products
The Association of German Foundations is launching its first Next Philanthropy knowledge products, among them a weekly board briefing, the Push newsletter, dedicated sections in its magazine and newsletter, and a series of breakfast meetings. The initial partners of this open effort include Alliance Magazine, African Venture Philanthropy Alliance (AVPA), Kenya; Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN), Singapore; Donors and Foundations Network in Europe (DAFNE), Belgium; European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA), Belgium; and Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS), Brazil; they are going to launch their own products and events later this year.
The initiative will use the hashtag #nextphilanthropy to help anyone who is interested to find relevant content online.
