The Association of German Foundations represents the German foundations at the international level being a member of the following networks:

Networks

Philea – Philanthropy Europe Association
Philanthropy Europe Association (Philea) was set up in 2021 by joining the Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe (DAFNE) and the European Foundation Centre (efc) to become the voice of European Philanthropy. Philea is a diverse and inclusive ecosystem of foundations, philanthropic organisations and networks in over 30 countries that work for the common good. It unites over 10,000 public-benefit foundations that seek to improve life for people and communities in Europe and around the world.

Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS)
WINGS is a community of thought leaders and changemakers who are committed to ensuring philanthropy reaches its fullest potential as a catalyst for social progress. We are committed to end inertia, break down silos, challenge conventional wisdom and create an enabling environment for philanthropy to flourish. Our goal is to encourage collaboration and ignite potential — to rally philanthropic actors everywhere to build a more just, equitable and healthy world.

European Community Foundation Initiative (ECFI)
The European Community Foundation Initiative (ECFI) is a collaborative initiative committed to strengthening and promoting the community foundation movement in Europe. It is hosted by the Association of German Foundations.

Ariadne – European Funders for Social Change and Human Rights
Ariadne is a European peer-to-peer network of more than 600 funders and philanthropists who support social change and human rights. Ariadne helps those using private resources for public good achieve more together than they can alone by linking them to other funders and providing practical tools of support.

Transnational foundation networks

Other transnational foundation networks we co-operate closely with:

Impact Europe
Impact Europe is a broad and diverse community of organisations interested in or practising venture philanthropy and social investment across Europe. Our members work together across sectors in order to promote and shape the future of venture philanthropy and social investment.

NEF - Network of European Foundations (NEF)
The Network of European Foundations aims to increase philanthropic impact by providing a space for collaboration, learning and regranting through collaborative projects of donors who focus on social inclusion, democracy, and international development.

Africa Philanthropy Network – Voice and Action for African Philanthropy (APN)
APN is a continent-wide network of organizations and individuals in Africa and its diaspora that promotes the culture of philanthropic giving. APN brings an ecosystem of philanthropy support institutions and civil society member organizations serving different forms of philanthropy currently in 48 African countries.

East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN)
Established in 2003, the East Africa Philanthropy Network (EAPN) formerly the East Africa Association of Grant-makers (EAAG), is a voluntary membership organization that brings together local charitable Trusts and Foundations in East Africa with the primary aim of promoting and growing a culture of giving. Membership of the network is drawn from Family Trusts, Community Foundations, Corporate Foundations, Private Foundations and other types of grant making and non-grant making organizations interested in promoting philanthropy. The Network's mission is to nurture a local giving and resource mobilization culture through effective grant making, advocacy and networking.

African Venture Philanthropy Alliance
AVPA is a Pan-African network for social investors who are interested in collaborating to increase the flow of capital into social investments across Africa and ensure that capital (financial, human and/or intellectual) is deployed as effectively and innovatively as possible for maximum social impact.

Venture philanthropy/social investment (VP/SI) is considered a continuum that encompasses everything from philanthropy to impact investing, CSR and sustainable investments by private businesses.

Asian Venture Philanthropy Network
We are a leading ecosystem builder that is increasing the flow of financial, human, and intellectual capital from Asia and around the world into the social sector in Asia. We provide a network of peers, rigorous learning programmes, and innovative capital mobilization opportunities that make sure resources are more effectively deployed.

Council on Foundations
The Council on Foundations is the US-American counterpart of the Association of German Foundations, both organisations maintain a close working relationship. As a membership-based organization of American foundations, the Council now offers a comprehensive service in the fields of philanthropy and foundation systems.

Knowledge Hubs and Resources

GrantCraft - Practical Wisdom for Funders
GrantCraft develops and curates resources across different strategies, issues, languages, and formats. GrantCraft is a service of Candid which works to improve the capacity of the social sector through data-driven tools and access to knowledge. Hundreds of grant makers — working in different contexts and types of foundations — have contributed their experiences to help create guides, cases, and videos that illuminate the challenges and skills of the craft.

Candid
Candid connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to do it. Candid creates comprehensive data sets and develops brand-new insights. Together, they have the capacity to ask and answer questions in ways they could not use as separate organizations.
