Senior Programme Manager – Climate Energy (m/f/d) (Hamburg)

The World Future Council (WFC) works to pass on a healthy planet and fair societies to our children and grandchildren. To achieve this, we focus on identifying and spreading effective, future-just policy solutions and promote their implementation worldwide. The Council consists of 50 eminent global change-makers from governments, parliaments, civil societies, academia, the arts and the business world. Jakob von Uexkull, the Founder of the Alternative Nobel Prize, launched the World Future Council in 2007. We are an independent, non-profit organisation under German law and finance our activities from donations and institutional partnerships. 

Location: Hamburg, Germany (Applicants need to have an EU work permit)
Reports to: Executive Director
Working hours: 40 hours per week
Contract: 1 year parental leave replacement (with possible continuation depending on funding)
Starting date: as soon as possible

Purpose of the job:
To lead the development and implementation of the WFC`s Climate and Energy Programme. This position requires a high level of autonomous project management.


Main responsibilities:

  • Team Management and Development (with 3 project managers)
  • Partnership and Network Development
  • Project monitoring and reporting to funders (incl. foundations, EU Horizon 2020 and development partners) in German and English
  • Provide guidance to project managers in project implementation (incl. development of policy material, stakeholder mapping, outreach to high-level stakeholders etc.)
  • Fundraising and proposal development (in German and English)
  • Representation of the WFC´s Climate Energy Programme at international policy fora and high level meetings
  • Strategic development of the WFC´s Climate Energy Programme
  • Monitoring and evaluation of climate and energy policy developments



  • Strong commitment to environmental and social justice
  • Project management and/ or campaign experience of 8+ years, including in advocacy, networking and engagement
  • Academic degree in relevant field
  • Knowledge in current international policy trends and issues of climate change, renewable energy and energy modelling
  • Fundraising and team management experiences
  • Event management experience
  • Facilitation skills
  • Professional fluency in German and English. Additional languages, especially Spanish or French is an asset
  • High IT literacy, including online communication experience (knowledge of content management systems and social media)
  • Basic administrative and office management skills
  • Detail-oriented and organised
  • High level of self-motivation as well as ability to work as part of a team
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to travel and occasionally attend events during evenings/weekends
